Developed as part of the Commonwealth-funded VET Workforce Project, the Trainer ToolBox is a free digital hub designed to support the transport supply chain VET workforce across the aviation, maritime, rail, and transport and logistics industries. The platform provides access to high-quality professional development resources aimed at strengthening training delivery and supporting workforce capability.  

Since its launch in June, the Trainer ToolBox has attracted more than 330 registered users, demonstrating strong demand for accessible, industry-focused professional development opportunities.  

“We’ve got trainers who are pretty tech savvy, all the way through to a team that are probably going to retire soon. But I feel confident that any of my team would be able to navigate that, which is good.”   

The platform was developed following extensive consultation and validation with transport supply chain registered training organisations (RTOs), ensuring the content meets the needs of trainers and educators working across the sector.  

The Trainer ToolBox currently offers more than 20 video-based learning modules covering a broad range of topics, including assessment design, facilitation skills, instructional design, student engagement and support, and the effective use of digital tools and artificial intelligence in training environments.  

A key feature of the platform is its Community of Practice, which enables users to connect with peers, share experiences, ask questions, and access additional resources. The forum provides valuable opportunities for collaboration and discussion around training delivery, implementation, and professional development.  

“I keep pushing it out to my trainers and my third-party trainers … hopefully they learn something from it. Anything that’s well-structured and informative and targeting them is good.”  

“The fact that this is free and online as a tool is very helpful because we’re obviously able to get our team in wherever they are.”  

Feedback from evaluation participants highlighted the practical nature of the content, noting that it is valuable for both new trainers seeking foundational knowledge and experienced practitioners looking to refresh and enhance their skills.  

One participant praised the platform’s intuitive design and ease of use.  

“The Trainer ToolBox is super easy to navigate. The interface is very easy to use. I like that all the content was organised into categories, which made it easy to see what was available and identify areas of interest.”  

The video seminars are intentionally designed to be accessible and flexible, with most courses taking approximately one hour to complete. Users particularly valued the bite-sized learning format, which allows professional development to fit more easily into busy schedules.  

ISA VET Workforce Project Manager Leslie Young said creating an engaging and user-friendly learning experience was a key priority throughout development.  

“Our aim was to make the Trainer ToolBox as user-friendly as possible,” Leslie said. “The website was designed with flexibility in mind, making it easy for users to access and participate in professional development activities when and where it suits them.”  

While the platform was developed specifically to support the transport supply chain VET workforce, its content is relevant to anyone working in a training, teaching or educational role.  

As the VET Workforce Project comes to a close, the continued growth of the Trainer ToolBox highlights the ongoing need for accessible, industry-informed professional development resources and a collaborative learning community for trainers and educators.  

“They all seem to be around the one-hour mark, which I think is a good length of time … one-hour bite-size is nice and easy to do rather than big, long courses … the content was good, relevant and applicable.”
