Workforce planning is central to Industry Skills Australia’s work. It helps us understand current, emerging and future workforce challenges and informs activity to address industry priorities.
The process
Workforce planning is a structured process for identifying industry workforce challenges, confirming priority areas, and coordinating activities that support a skilled and sustainable workforce. The process is overseen by Industry Skills Australia’s (ISA) Strategic Workforce Planning Committees and feeds into ISA project submissions and activity planning.

Publications
Workforce Outlook brings together key themes across the transport supply chain industries to support strategic discussion and collaboration.
The 2026 Workforce Outlook highlights the significance of the transport supply chain to all other industries. A capable and adaptable transport supply chain workforce is critical for Australia’s:
Workforce Plans set out major workforce challenges and establish an evidence base and priority areas for each industry. The 2025 Workforce Plans are foundational documents in a multi-year cycle.
Workforce Planning Updates provide annual reports on progress against the priorities for each industry. They highlight activities and initiatives led by ISA and other industry stakeholders and include case studies that demonstrate successful outcomes.
