Review of the Diploma of Logistics

This project will review and update the Diploma of Logistics to strengthen leadership and operational management capabilities across Australia’s Transport Supply Chain sectors.

About the project

Project overview

Transport and logistics are critical to Australia’s freight network, making strong leadership and operational expertise essential to attracting talent and meeting growing industry demand. The Diploma of Logistics (TLI50224) has long supported the development of these capabilities; and it is important that the qualification remains contemporary and reflects current or emerging workforce needs.

In response to this feedback, and aligned with the priorities identified in the Transport and Logistics 2025 Workforce Plan, the project will address several key areas, including:

Emerging technologies and digital transformation
Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) compliance
Leadership capability in compliance, sustainability, and workforce wellbeing

Skills in cyber security and data analytics

Why this matters

What it means for industry

This project will ensure the qualification aligns with contemporary industry expectations to equip learners with the skills needed for future workforce requirements. The updated Diploma will support the development of senior management capability across a wide range of Transport Supply Chain environments and provide clearer progression opportunities from entry level roles through to advanced leadership positions.

It will also strengthen training pathways, creating a more seamless transition from Certificate I–IV in Supply Chain Operations to the Advanced Diploma of Supply Chain Management.

In addition, the project will address recommendations and findings from the Omnichannel Logistics and Space Transport Skills Gap Analysis projects that impact the Diploma of Logistics. Where appropriate, relevant passenger transport units from the Diploma of Bus and Coach Operations will be incorporated.

What will be delivered

This project will:

Review and update:
- 2 qualifications:
  - TLI50224 Diploma of Logistics
  - TLI50716 Diploma of Bus and Coach Operations
- 41 units of competency (including merging, removing, or developing new units as required)
- 9 skill sets
- Maintain out of scope qualifications
Rename the qualification to Diploma of Supply Chain Management to better reflect its scope and support clearer progression pathways.
Incorporate passenger transport units as a specialist stream, where appropriate, to maintain relevant skills from the Diploma of Bus and Coach Operations
Update the Companion Volume Implementation Guide (CVIG).

How this will be achieved

Industry Skills Australia (ISA) will engage with stakeholders throughout the life of the project and consider all ideas, opinions, and feedback to the revised training products to ensure they meet the needs of industry. A consultation log containing a high-level summary of all feedback and ISA’s response will be maintained and available on our website.

To ensure the updated Diploma reflects the real workforce needs of Australia’s Transport Supply Chain sectors, ISA is establishing a Technical Committee made up of subject matter experts to help shape a qualification that supports workforce capability now and into the future.

ISA will facilitate a webinar following endorsement of the training products to support stakeholders in understanding the changes and how they will affect them.
