This project updated training products to enable furniture removal workers to develop skills that are highly transferable to a range of vocations across the Supply Chain sectors.

Project completion

On 2 June 2025, Skills Ministers endorsed updated training products that modernise training pathways for the furniture removal industry. Following a review of the Transport and Logistics Training Package, two underutilised furniture removal qualifications were removed, while six updated furniture removal units of competency were retained and embedded within widely delivered Supply Chain and Driving Operations qualifications.

The updated units reflect current industry practices and are now available as general electives across four Transport and Logistics qualifications. In addition, a new Furniture Removal specialisation stream has been introduced within the Certificate III in Supply Chain Operations, providing learners with greater access to training and more portable, nationally recognised skills.

The following units were updated:

  • TLID2018 – Handle furniture and effects
  • TLID2019 – Pack and unpack cartons during a removal
  • TLIE2032 – Assess removal load
  • TLID3048 – Pack and unpack furniture and effects
  • TLID3050 – Coordinate furniture removal
  • TLIE3010 – Estimate furniture removal jobs

The project was developed with support from the Australian Furniture Removal Association (AFRA), industry stakeholders and a Technical Committee of subject matter experts to ensure the training products meet current and future workforce needs.

Why this matters

What did this mean for industry?

The endorsed training products strengthen formal training and career pathways for furniture removal workers while supporting workforce attraction and retention. By embedding furniture removal skills within broader Supply Chain qualifications, workers gain nationally recognised and transferable skills that improve workforce mobility, career progression and access to training across related industries.

What did this mean for Registered Training Organisations?

The updated training products were included in Release 16.0 of the Transport and Logistics Training Package. To support implementation, AFRA is developing resources for the furniture removal units and providing subject matter expertise to assist trainers and assessors.

The Companion Volume Implementation Guide (CVIG) has also been updated to provide implementation guidance, mapping information and support materials for RTOs, trainers, assessors and enterprises. In addition, Industry Skills Australia (ISA) delivered a stakeholder webinar to explain the changes and support the transition to the revised training products.
