Industry Advisory Council

Supply chain operations right across our economy are being radically transformed through digitalisation, big data, robotics, and automation. These factors, combined with the increasing dominance of omnichannel logistics and the move to a low carbon economy, are revolutionising business models, redesigning jobs, and demanding new skills. The impact is far reaching. While the Australian transport and logistics workforce comprises over 730,000, that number rises to over one million when including those employed in industries such as mining, manufacturing, retail, and agriculture. Importantly, it’s companies in these industries that often pioneer new ways of working and new technologies that subsequently flow through to transport and logistics, for example, Rio Tinto’s remote train operations or Primary Connect’s warehouse automation.

The Industry Advisory Council (the Council) is a high-level, tripartite mechanism that brings together a range of industries with the single goal of building a resilient and agile supply chain workforce.

The Council will provide strategic advice on:

  • Cutting-edge trends in technology adoption and automation set to transform how Australia’s supply chains operate, and the likely changes to business models, jobs and skills;
  • Immediate and emerging skills and workforce development priorities of Australia’s supply chain workforce;
  • Opportunities for cross-industry collaboration and solutions to address supply chain skills and workforce development challenges;
  • Responses required by the national skills system, industry and governments.

For any enquiries about the Industry Advisory Council, please contact our Chief Executive Officer, Paul Walsh.
